유네스코 세계유산인 수원 화성의 정조로 변에 자리잡은 소규모 부티크 호텔이다. ‘허구의 건축’(fictional architecture) 개념을 적용한 사례로서, 원래 이 자리에 1970년대 초반에 지어진 중정형 상가아파트가 있었다고 가정하고 이를 호텔로 개조한다는 가상의 과정에 의해 설계를 진행했다. 로비에서 객실로 이르는 전 과정에서 중정의 포근함을 경험할 수 있는 것이 특징으로, 무지개떡 건축의 일종인 상가아파트에 대한 황두진건축의 연구 성과를 창의적으로 활용한 결과물이다. 외관의 벽돌 영롱쌓기는 수원 화성에서 영감을 받았다. 인테리어는 상업 숙박시설이 아닌 가정의 분위기로 접근, 붙박이 가구 보다는 정감 있는 이동식 가구를 주로 배치하였다.
The Hotel Habott is a small boutique hotel on the Jeongjo-ro in the middle of the Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. DJHA developed the idea of ‘fictional architecture’ for this project; as the storyline goes, an imaginary old atrium apartment building on the site is to be renovated into a hotel. From the lobby to the guest rooms, the entire spatial experience unfolds around the warm and cosy central atrium, an idea creatively borrowed from the research by DJHA of the mixed-use atrium apartments (a Rainbow Cake Architecture typology) from the 1970s’. The porous brick wall facade is inspired by the use of bricks of the Hwaseong Fortress. The interior is treated more like a home rather than a commercial hospitality space, as clearly demonstrated by the choice of homy, moveable furniture as opposed to fixed, built-in types.
