집운헌 1
집운헌은 서울 북촌의 한옥마을에서도 31번지와 더불어 한옥이 가장 밀집된 지역인 11번지를 남북으로 관통하고 있는 긴 골목길에 자리잡고 있다. 한옥이 가지고 있는 특성을 유지하면서도 다양한 시도를 했다. 본격적으로 지하 차고 및 서재를 적용했고 지상층에는 주된 생활공간이 자리 잡았다. 지붕을 건식으로 구성하여 그 내부의 공간에 배관과 덕트 등을 설치하고 실내 단면의 고저의 차를 이용, 대청의 측면벽에 냉난방용 토출구를 배치했다. 그리고 겹집 구조를 이용해 실내의 보온효과를 증대시키고자 했다.

집운헌 1의 바로 뒷집이며 담장의 작은 문을 통해 서로 연결되어 있다. 전통한옥의 맛과 멋을 충분히 유지하면서도 현대인이 필요로 하는 각종 기능 또한 충족할 수 있도록 했다. 바닥의 높이차를 이용해 매립형 나무욕조를 설치한 것은 그 한 예다. 또한 현대의 성능기준에 맞는 기밀성, 단열, 방음 등의 기본적 조건을 충족시키는데 전통 창호만으로는 한계가 있다고 판단하여 시스템창호를 동시에 적용했다. 그러나 시각적인 결과에 대한 아쉬움이 이후 한식 시스템창호에 대한 연구를 시작하게 되는 계기가 되었다.

Jibwunheon 1 is located at an alley running north-south in the District 11in Bukchon, Seoul, which, just like the neighboring District 31, has a large number of Hanoks. While keepingmany of Hanok’s traditional characteristics, we did a few experiments as well: a garage and a library were placed in the basement floor and the main living space is on the ground floor. Dry roof construction was used allowing for pipes and ducts to be installed within the roof space. Utilizing the height differences in the interior walls, heating and cooling diffusers could be installed in the side walls of the Dae-chung. We also tried to increase insulation through the use of a Kyup-jipplan (an added space between the internal and external spaces).
Jibwunheon 2 is located behind Jibwunheon 1 and is connected to it through a small gate within a garden wall. It has the characteristics of a traditional Hanok, while satisfying the contemporary functions and lifestyle. For instance, a wooden tub is sunkenbelow the floor, taking advantage of the height differences in a Hanok section. In order to overcome the limits of traditional windows, such as air-permeability, heat and sound insulation, new system windowswere installed. However, we found that the new system windows did not have sufficient aesthetic qualities as the ones in a traditional Hanok. This result sparked the beginning of our study for new system windows that would be more appropriate to a contemporary Hanok.
